Directions for Writing:
Summary:
- Write an interesting 2 to 3 paragraph summary of the story, but do not give away the ending.
- Include something in your summary that mentions the theme.
- Do not begin your summary by saying "This is a story about..." (that's boring) Be creative!
About the Author & Illustrator:
Write 3 paragraphs about yourself.
- Paragraph 1 (5 or more sentences) - Give general information about who you are. You might include age, where you live and go to school, what your family is like, your hobbies and interests, and any pets you have.
- Paragraph 2 (2 or 3 sentences) - Tell about why you wrote this particular story. Include how you chose your character, why you think the theme or problem is good for young readers, and any other reasons you had for picking this idea.
- Paragraph 3 (3 to 4 sentences) - Tell about your artwork. What style is it (realistic, cartoon, anime, detailed, simple, etc.)? Why did you use the particular colors that you chose? What kind of background details did you use? Why did you make the objects and characters the sizes that they are? What medium or media did you use (pencil, crayon, marker, water color paints, cut-out paper, etc.)?
Directions for Typing:
- Use a word processing computer program (like Microsoft Word or Mac's AppleWorks). Set the page for 2 columns.
- On one column, type your 2 or 3 summary paragraphs.
- On the second column, type your 3 author & illustrator paragraphs.
- Remember to use correct formatting for paragraphs: indent with the "tab" key, and only hit the "enter/return" key once when you finish a paragraph and are ready to start the next one.
- Reread and spell check before printing one copy.
