Page Break Rules

Goal: Separate your story into 10-12 (at most 15) sections that wil become individual pages in the picture book.

Hint: If you would need to draw a different picture, you should mark a page break.

Marking: Draw a double-vertical line in your draft at the place that each separation should occur.

Good places to make a break (Draw your break line just before these things):

  • location changes
  • major change in activity or action
  • major time change
  • new character enters the scene (or just after a character exits the scene)
  • major topic changes in conversation
  • section is too long - break somewhere near middle that makes sense
  • final page "end scene"
