Point of View Cupboard

Directions:

  1. Choose one of the toys that came to life in The Indian in the Cupboard.
  2. Then choose a small section of the story that includes this character. Reread the actual passage from the book, then rewrite it from the character's point-of-view. (This means, pretend you are the character and describe the event from the story using "I" and telling what happened and your emotions during this event.) You should write one detailed paragraph of about 8 to 12 sentences. You will have to use your imagination, as well as the text, to describe this event well.
  3. Print the cupboard pattern page, and write your final copy of your point-of-view paragraph on the lines.
  4. Draw your chosen character on the cupboard shelf.
  5. Write your name on "Name" line and the character's name after "Character".
  6. Finally, cut out the cupboard, fold it shut, and make the front look like the front door of Omri's cupboard. (You may need to reread the section of the book that describes what the cupboard looked like. This should be found in the chapter that describes Omri's family giving him birthday gifts.)
