Colonial Protest Posters

Directions:

Choose to protest either the Stamp Act or the Townshend Acts. (Not both!)

Review the items that were taxed with your chosen Act(s), and the reason(s) that the colonists did not want to pay these taxes, according to your textbook and our class notes.

Imagine that you are a colonist, and write from the first-person perspective.

Create a poster (you may choose to make it vertical or horizontal) that includes each of the following elements, based on protesting your chosen Act:

  • Slogan telling which Act(s) you are protesting
  • Your explanation, as a colonist, of why you disagree with the tax law. This must be based on what you learned in chapter 9!
  • Tell specific actions (again, based on what you learned in chapter 9) you think other colonists should take to protest this law.
  • Add designs or pictures to fill the empty space, without looking too crowded.
  • Your real name, class number, and date on the front

Your poster should be neat, colorful, and have correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
