Homophones Unit

(8th grade)

Homophones are words that sound alike, but have different spellings and different meanings. This unit addresses some of the homophones (and near-homophones) that are most frequently mis-used by 8th graders when they write.

Frequently Confused Words:

  • affect/effect
  • there/their/they're
  • to/too/two
  • your/you're
  • are/our/hour
  • off/of/have ('ve)

Download the project sheets (click on appropriate link) in PDF* format and print them to use.

  • Notes on Frequently Confused Words (You will be tested on only the word sets listed above, but should use the others on the notes to help you any time you are writing.)
