"Shelfie" Project
(8th grade)
Focus: share your literary "shelfie" and describe author's style
(Writing 8.4, 8.5, 8.6, 8.10; Language 8.1, 8.2)
Project Directions:
- Find some books that you have read and enjoyed recently.
- Stack them, and take a photo to make a "shelfie". Alternately, you may draw a detailed sketch of your "shelfie". (See teacher's example to the right.)
- Save your "shelfie" photo to your GoogleDrive for later use.
- Also print or email your "shelfie" photo to turn in.
- Using the Google Slides "Shelfie" Project document shared with you by your teacher, add your "shelfie" photo to the slide that has your name at the top.
- Beside your photo, write a paragraph that summarizes what your "shelfie" shows about you as a reader.
- Select one specific book from your "shelfie" and write a second paragraph explaining what you like about that author's writing style. (Do not retell the book's plot or describe its characters. Focus your paragraph on the way the author writes, and why you find that enjoyable.) Be certain to name the title and author of the book in your paragraph.
- Be prepared to share your "shelfie" project page with the class.
