THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS1536 Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate.

- See Mrs. Barragree's unit on Religious Vocations to learn more about deacons, priests, bishops, and the Pope. *Please note that Holy Orders only includes deacons, priests, and bishops (the Pope is a bishop). Holy Orders does not include vowed women religious or "brothers" who are not deacons. Mrs. Barragree's Religious Vocations unit does include vowed religious of both genders, not only those who have taken Holy Orders.
