My Summer

Focus: complete sentences and adding details to a narrative

(Writing 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6; Language 6.1, 6.2)

Directions:

• Brainstorm a list of 10 topics about your summer (at least 5 must be real, 5 or less may be imagined/pretend).
• Develop each topic into a complete sentence:
  • This will be a numbered list of 10 total sentences.
  • These sentences will NOT be related to one another, and should not be in paragraph form.
• Choose 3 of the topics you think are most interesting (2 real and 1 pretend, OR all 3 real). For each of the 3 topics, you will write a short, 4-sentence paragraph:
  • Write a topic sentence (This might be the sentence from your list, or a modified version of it.)
  • Write 3 detail sentences that explain your idea more thoroughly. They should relate to the topic and be organized in an way that makes good sense.
  • Repeat this process for the other 2 topics.
  • Your end result should be 3 separate paragraphs of exactly 4 sentences each. The paragraphs will not directly relate to each other.
• Develop an introductory sentence and a conclusion sentence for the overall 3-paragraph essay.
• Peer edit using the Six Traits of Writing guide.
• Type a final copy.
