Religious Vocations Essay

Focus: research and use descriptive writing to describe religious vocations

(Writing 6.2, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 6.10; Language 6.1, 6.2)

Directions:

  • Complete the K-W-L chart to organize what you already know and guide your research about religious vocations
  • Research to complete the Brainstorm Sheet about all 4 religious vocations (priest, permanent deacon, religious sister/nun, religious brother/monk). Use Mrs. Barragree's Religious Life page to find informative videos about each vocation, and use the resources from religion class.
  • Draft the 4 body paragraphs to explain each religious vocation. Follow the Essay Directions to organize your content.
  • Develop an introductory paragraph and a conclusion paragraph for the overall 6-paragraph essay, following the Essay Directions.
  • Peer revise & edit using the directions and Six Traits of Writing guide.
  • Type a revised draft copy. Print it.
  • Do a second peer revision & edit using the directions and the Six Traits of Writing guide.
  • Adjust typed draft to include the revisions and edits, and print the final copy with word-count.
  • Make and save a second copy edited to match the 300-400 word requirement for the contest, if the first version is too long.
